I just thought I'd post two of my poems - tell me what ya think Smile

Wingless

Soaring through the sky
On an effortless plane
No string, no tie
To earthen terrain.

Flowering freedom
From flowing flight
Will create a kingdom
Of sun filled light

And the ethereal wings
That guide me higher
Cleanse me of the things
That my life doth tire.

Above the clouds,
I will be one with the air
But alas, dark shrouds
Mean I shall never get there

And this is so,
For as I ascended
I was shot from below
And quickly descended.

The ground hit me
With an empirical force,
And light ceased to be
As my thoughts lost course.

But, I am alive,
I survived,
I am free of pain.
Yet, maimed forever
I can never
Take to the skies again.

Cosmos

From a place outside of time,
The omniscient creatures
That crawl through the crevice of space
Marvel at the obsidian emptiness
That overwhelms us all.
The glow of starlight
Radiates in the mind
As if the universe itself
Were a seamless ocean
And within its endless confines
And ceaseless waves of azure
Beat the smallest of hearts,
A vibration too small to measure.
These silver sparks
In their ebony veil
Dapple the skies in their millions
Until all sense of self has past them by
And only purpose remains as they sail
Blindly through the charcoal cosmos.
Look further back at the galaxy,
The swirling, writhing mass
Of rocky entities
That collect and collide
Creating an eternal chaos
That will never pass.
Vivid planets turn
As the amber sun burns
And the soulless systems yearn
For a glint of life.
An empty hope of a mentality
That questions their birth.

Lovely poem, Aquila. I've only read Wingless so far. This one had a fragile beauty to the prose, and the ending… oh, so very sad.
Crying or Very sad

Two very evocative poems, Aquila, and really nicely structured.

I wrote some poems (mercifully, never read by anyone else) when I was a mere slip of a thing, and I appreciate that it really isn't as easy as it looks.

Very nicely done.

Thank you Very Happy I didn't know if they'd be any good or not Confused
The only problems is, I have loads more where those came from! Though, thankfully not as long Razz
By the by, does anyone ever try joining in a Role playing game? They are really usefully for improving writing and they're loads of fun!

I wrote this poem the other day:

The Gargoyle

Ebony light sets night aflame
And wakens the darkness to life again.
The eyes of granite mature to garnet
To seek out the movement that stirs beneath
In the wake of the iridescent shadow.
Aching with age, their withered wings unfurl
And they shiver and shake
To breathe the air once more.
All of them free, they slink skyward
As if one serpent
Slithering up the stony citadel,
Their crusty claws creeping into every crevice With shattering silence.
One by one they fall from the spire
And catch the wind to soar
Above the sleeping souls that reside in darkness.
Alive as flesh,
Released from the imprisonment of day
They wander the veiled earth
Until the sun’s inferno arises
To seal their spirits in stone

I think Becks was talking about starting an RP thread or board or something, but we weren't sure if enough people would play it to make it worthwhile. Would anyone be into that?

I read the Gargoyle, Aquila. Well done. I wish I can write poetry as well.

I see a serpent theme here....you reptile person, you.

Maybe everybody is thinking… What's RP? What do you have to do?

It's Role Play. Everyone takes one or more characters, and someone starts the plot off and then each person writes the part for their own characters in real time, as the story unfolds.

I've had a look at it, but I have to admit it isn't my scene...

Confused

RP can be fun and it can get annoying, it depends where you go. Some are set in universes with strict rules - for example on an Anne McCaffrey Dragons of pern RP, you wouldn't be allowed to have a red dragon becasue it's not in keeping with the story. But others an be really librel, like a Star Wars RP as you can pretty much write abut anything becasue it'd all fit in!
